My name is Ashley, I'm a Carolina girl living in Alabama. I'm slightly obsessed with glass paper weights, everything Harry Potter, and vintage books. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 3 years now and we have a mini schnauzer named Maddie. I recently graduated with a degree in elementary education but due to the economy was unable to find a teaching job.
Finding myself a home without a teaching job, I sat down one day and started to cut whales out of paper. Why whales you ask, because I just love them. And what about the paper? My mom had just given me all her old scrapbook stuff. Anyway, I ended up with a ton of cute hand cut whales. Then the idea came to me, a friend of mine used to make paper butterfly mobiles. So why couldn't I make a paper whale mobile. I could try to sell it on etsy, and if no one bought it I could use it for my own children one day.
I made one or two more and opened up a shop, Southern Pearl Designs. It's been open for three months now and is doing well for a first time shop (or so my friends tell me). I even made it on to the home page (the cute whales of course).
